Hey friends!!! Nicole here, owner and founder here of The PowHer Hub! I felt the need to personally write about a recent event I was apart of that was a game-changer! I want to share some of the things happening here with us, and urge you to join in the movement of change, but of course in our own special way from us at The HUB!

We recently shared with you the exciting news that part of our company will be geared to assisting Women who want to run for elected office in getting their message and initiatives out to a broader audience. This is a big step for us and we are ecstatic to be taking the necessary steps to make the dream a reality.

We recently applied for the “Women on the Run” campaign and political training program from The Women’s Foundation of Florida. A non-partisan training and mentoring program for women interested in running for office or serving in a leadership role of a community organization.

I was honored to be accepted, and attended this weekends first training! WOW is all I can say. It was a surreal moment as I entered a room filled with Women with a sole purpose to make a difference and an impact in the world and local communities. It was humbling, eye-opening and one of the most inspiring events in my life as I met like-minded women in the community. That we got to share with each other our desire to be apart of change either by running for office or helping other get elected .To be in the room with local and state representatives that had a purpose to share with us to grow, mentor, and that the time is now to get involved.

The current political landscape in this country seems the most vial it has ever been. However, it is not time to retreat or back down; but to keep going, fight fire, with more integrity, grit, compassion and intelligence. I want to share with you our mission in this endeavor is to do just that in our own way. As we dive into this world with an intent to make our mark and make a difference, we ask that you join in and be all hands on deck with us. Please contact us as we will be looking for people to get involved with us and join our crew! Expect The Hub series soon this summer !!! #summer18 in 3,2,1 !!!

I thank you for being on this journey with us and look forward to bringing you more content you won’t get from anywhere else! I want to hear from you, leave a comment and contact us to send an email so we can keep you in the loop first! Until next time….

Its getting stuffy in here. Like can’t breathe get me outta here kind of stuffy. Sweating under the collar (or tunic for the fashionistas reading) kind of deal. With being a women in business for many years (Ahem, 13) at a young age, you had to act a certain way, dress a certain way, conduct business a certain way and please by NO means, be yourself. Insert a decade, a millennial or two, a plethora of social media sites, youtube stars and wala! Being yourself may, just may, be cool again….and yes even in business. Actually especially in business.

There’s a real fine line between being yourself and being professional. That line is different with every individual, depending on what it is that you do and the norms you feel pulled to follow for your profession. If you cannot express yourself in any part of your work/life, then how can you ever set yourself, your business and your value apart? You cannot is the answer here. There was a time, and it may still exist in some areas, where Realtors like myself could not be ourselves, we had to play a role as a salesperson only. The old school way of sales and the term “how its always been done,” is a fight we still fight. Sales is sales, but with the progression of the Internet, social media and the booming business of being an entrepreneur showing a little personality can set yourself apart from the thousands of other agents or businesses in your area. ( P.s. Realtors are the REAL OG’s of being entrepreneurs before it was cool, lol )

So what can you do to spice up your business, not be so stuffy and let your personality shine? Specifically, it depends on your business and industry, and it is also dependent on the individual and how they like to express themselves. If you are an entrepreneur and a business owner like myself, you ARE your business and your business is YOU. You are the face, the brains the whole enchilada, remember that. Entrepreneurs and business owners have an advantage where they can utilize social media platforms and modern business practices to their advantage. Here are just a few tools you can utilize to capitalize on letting your personality shine in business and with little effort make YOU the ultimate branding tool!

1.) GET INVOLVED! Network, mix it up, go out into your community and meet people, let them know who you are, what you do and show them a different side of you. People are drawn to realness, not carbon copies produced in mass quantities. The more you get out there and get to know people the better chance you have of people understanding you and how you alone set your business apart.

2.) How you dress says a lot about you. There are many ways to be professional, yet fun and interesting. Find what works for you and do it. Style is literally an extension of yourself and your personality. Why not use that to your advantage? Depending on your profession, why not spice up your wardrobe a little? Accessorize a little more if your thing is adding fun pieces. How about shoes? Say no more right?!?! For example, I LOVE shoes, and people around me know that. Why?! Its become almost part of my brand now. Its also fun and allows me to express myself which is what we are trying to accomplish here. Here are some ideas from Nordstroms that hit the mark on options to consider. Not the best at putting an outfit together or accessorizing? Well thank you Internet! Just google ideas and search!!! www.Nordstroms.com

3.) The use of social media for branding businesses in a fun and expressive way for little to no money is the best thing you can have going for you. This is where you and your personality can not only shine but you can utilize and incorporate that into your business. If you are the owner what better way than to use video and pictures to express yourself and market and brand your business. This will also allow people to get to know you, maybe your hobbies and relate more to you. It’s a win-win if used correctly.

Look at the end of the day you cannot please everyone, and you are not everyone’s cup of tea, thats ok. Pick something you love to do and something that really allows you to express yourself. There most definitely is a way to incorporate that into business to make life a little more interesting and more important business not so stuffy. Mission accomplished!

For all of my Realtors out there? Our business is changing everyday, and as a 13 year vet I have definitely seen the ups and downs and the modernization of the business itself. Social media is our friend that we can use and operate how we see fit. If Ryan Serhant can have fun on Million Dollar listing, be a multi-million dollar producer 10 times over, still be professional, add value and customer service to his clients than so can you! Find your niche and go for it! Its not business as usual anymore……!!!

Comment and let us know what you do to make work more fun and let your personality shine! Lets build our community!!

Feminism, that word alone can spark passionate debates in the world today. Equal pay and equal rights over our decisions and our bodies is something we should all be fighting for. Sometimes you hear just women talking about the topic, and not so much men speaking passionately about the rights for women, until now. It is not everyday that you get the joy of your President proudly calling himself a feminist. President Obama penned an essay for Glamour Magazine that is personal and in depth on the real issues at hand today. Written from not just the Presidents point-of-view on the issues, but in the shoes of a father and husband in our country and son of a single mother. Before we go any further lets set something straight. Equality for all is not a political issue as some may have you believe. No, it in fact is a right and wrong issue plain and simple. Inequality of any kind is simply wrong!

The article raises a bigger question with regards to equality of the sexes, and that is men’s role in equality for women. It was refreshing to see the most important and respected man in the world views on women’s rights and equality of the sexes. We see a lot of women championing the rights of the cause, and you can hear men speak on the issue, but not this poignantly expressed about the reality of the situation. He gave insightful thoughts about what he experiences versus what his wife and daughters experience. Especially two young women entering college and eventually the modern work force. Expressing what he saw his wife and first lady, Michelle Obama go through as a working mother and wife and the stigma of being a working mother.

At the end of the day we as women cheer other women on, support women in their endeavors and urge them to live the life they were destined to live. What we sometimes forget to mention is how men have a role in equality, starting with fathers in how they raise their girls. In the essay the President calls himself a feminist so that his daughters know what to expect from other males. Brilliant and very true, our Fathers are usually our first real expectation of men. In the essay he states “we need to change the attitude that we raise our girls to be demure and boys assertive.” The conversation moving forward should include young boys, and how they are raised. Fathers, husbands, boyfriends, men in positions of power in the workplace, and that’s just to start.

So, ask yourself do you believe in equality and in this case equality of the sexes?! Well then congratulations you’re a feminist too! Welcome…..

Check out the article and let us know your thoughts. We open up The Hub platform to share your thoughts and comments with us! So share away…

It’s not just a song, a melody to sing, or a dance step to mimic. No, in fact it is a movement, a tribe and group of women that is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. Who is this force you ask??? Look no further then the MODERN SINGLE WOMAN! Don’t believe me? I recently was not only inspired to share an article that I read from NYMAG by Rebecca Traister’s book named exactly that “ALL THE SINGLES LADIES”, but also write about it and share my own personal experiences and those of my peers.

Times have indeed changed, and it is something that we cannot ignore anymore. The article from NYMAG in reference to the single, unmarried woman becoming more the norm then ever before in any past generation. As a single and unmarried woman myself, I can completely relate to the article. You can almost feel it; the landscape is and has changed. What was normal when I was growing up and in past generations, is not as normal anymore… consider this the new normal. As someone with pretty strong female influences in my life, not having to adhere to someone’s idea of how I should live my life was something instilled in me at a young age, and judging from the article derived by Rebecca Traister’s book, I am not alone. Again, the new normal.

On the heels of International Women’s Day and the talk regarding the pay gap between men and women makes this a more serious and interesting topic of discussion. The article is insightful and covers the gamut for this group and how it relates to the current political scene and upcoming election. The reality is, I know more women in my situation then not, and definitely more then my Mother’s generation and generations before would have encountered. As the article states, nearly 60% of women were wed by the time they were 29 in 1960, and now that number has dropping to a staggering 20%!! That statistic is proof enough that times have changed, but yet certain questions remain. Has society changed or the theory of and marriage itself changed? Those questions alone spur a million conversations. The article articulates how each decade and generation for that matter had evolved to bring us to this point and circumstance.

In speaking at length about this topic to my friends, and as recently in the last week alone, it is not that this fierce group isn’t interested in marriage or healthy relationships… that’s definitely not the case. Their priorities and ideals for their careers, what they set out to accomplish personally or professionally in life and dating alone seem to not mesh so easily together like they used to. It isn’t easy out there in the dating world, and I can safely say that my single friends are genuinely happy and self sufficient career women who can stand on their own two feet in the meantime. Bridging that gap, ultimately enjoying life and making their way in their own respective careers to support and help their family and make a way and name for themselves proudly. It is definitely more prevalent today then ever before and why the debate on the gap in pay for women is so important.

With the impending election, I think this will be a much talked about topic concerning the pay gap and equality for women not just in the work place but on a more personal level. I think the most rewarding thing we can take away since starting The PowHer Hub is the amazing women we have had the opportunity to meet along the way from so many backgrounds and careers. As we have said many times before, a tribe of thought-provoking, innovative, hard working women who have a voice that needs to be heard.. The connections we have made have been the most fulfilling, spurring a myriad of exciting collaborations to come. Some of those outstanding women we are working with are in the same boat, but are making waves changing lives personally and professionally. All the while not living a life that is defined by what society norms tell them they need to be or how to be at certain ages pressuring them into a specific category. That is truly inspiring us at The PowHer Hub.

So to the single, taken, married, complicated, given up, not quite sure, who knows, don’t ask……keep pushing and making those waves!!!
